Washington University in St. Louis, one of the top-ranked universities in the United States, partnered with Almanac to create a new website for their Undergraduate Admissions department, the primary gateway site for prospective students and their families.
The website needed to inspire students to explore the many different (and sometimes divergent) paths of study, highlight amenities both on and off campus and connect the university’s groundbreaking research to their global opportunities and impact.
By setting clear goals, embarking on a deep dive into users and their needs, and by developing a thorough understanding of the admissions cycle, we laid the groundwork for a new, user-focused website. We worked closely with the Undergraduate Admissions team and WashU’s office of Public Affairs through an extensive discovery process, followed by design prototyping and front-end development.
One of the differentiating qualities of a WashU education: the university encourages students to pursue multiple passions at the same time. Throughout, messaging and interactive tools reinforce the sense of exploration, while new content types throughout give users insight into academic studies, life on campus and life in St. Louis. Application processes can be daunting, even for savvy students and their parents. We organized a disparate application process by audience, turning it into a clear set of actionable steps.
“Almanac's process for understanding your users is second to none.”Ted Elsas, Senior Director, Digital Communications Office of Public Affairs - Washington University in St. Louis
